Update on Bicycle Thieves

Our detectives have charged two juveniles after an extensive investigation. The arrest of these juveniles have led to a total of twenty nine closed cases with a majority of them being theft from vehicles throughout the City of Cambridge. Five of the cases were recent burglaries and attempted burglaries of businesses within the city. There are additional arrests expected and detectives are still in the process of notifying the victims.
The arrest of these juveniles began with a phone call from a concerned citizen reporting suspicious activity in his neighborhood. This is a great example of the community and the police working together to prevent crime and make our streets safer.

Security at Deep Harbour and 900 Marshy Cove: Community Watch
As a result of the last 900 Marshy Cove Board of Directors Meeting, an initiative to organize a Community Watch was launched.
At this time, volunteers are needed. For the most part, it is about keeping our eyes open and reporting incidents. In the past, incidents have been unreported or overlooked. Other incidents have been processed through the grapevine only to be amplified.
One of the first steps will be to post signage to put the public on notice that Deep Harbour is private property and surveillance is in place. Such signage provides the local police with justification to intervene when called.
Everyone in our community can help. If you see someone who does not belong and appears to be acting suspiciously, or loitering, call the police. Write down the time of day and description of the activity. Good information will be the foundation of a solid Community Watch program.
Please understand that pedestrians do have the right to pass through Deep Harbour. There are many locals that use the easement to pass from Trenton St to Cedar St. We do not need to harass these citizens.
Of the very few incidents reported to date most could be classified as opportunistic thefts. Keeping doors locked and taking simple precautions, should deter future occurrences.

At 900 Marshy Cove, a third surveillance camera was added to record activity in the garage. Now there are 8 cameras recording all entrances, the garage, and the lobby. Cameras do not stop the bad guys but, at minimum help to establish the time and nature of an incident.

Important Notice from the Deep Harbour Master Association

Evening,
I'm asking everyone to keep ALL vehicles and property
secured at all times and don't leave valuables in your vehicles whether locked
or not. Lock your house and keep your garage doors closed and locked at all
times as we have had several thefts recently. I've seen non-residents passing through Deep Harbour looking around the last two mornings and again this evening. I've called police
twice this evening.
There was a theft on Aurora St at the condo bldg just
outside our fire gates. Our dogs alerted us but, the cops couldn't get there quickly enough.
Please
watch for young 4 black males, approx age 16-20, on bicycles cruising through
Deep Harbour and adjoining neighborhoods. The morning trips have been just one
"scout" looking things over. This evening's trip was four males on four bikes.
They're looking for opportunities to steal anything left unsecured. To my
knowledge they haven't broken into any homes or vehicles yet but they have
entered unlocked cars and garages that were left open. The same four people have
been seen on bikes just before other incidents. The police feel pretty certain
they're the perpetrators but they have to catch them in the act or with the
goods.
If
you see anyone acting suspiciously or anything that doesn't look quite right,
please call
Sgt Hurley asks that we keep phones on us as much as possible and call right away if we see anything suspicious. They're trying hard to catch these kids but, four of them working together and riding bikes are proving difficult to catch. The bikes make thieves quick, quiet and stealthy. They cruise around scouting things to steal then three act as lookouts while the fourth one takes the prize. They can shut it down and be gone the second anyone approaches, be it a resident on foot or a police officer in a car, and they can go places on bikes that cop cars can't.

easiest way to rid ourselves of this problem is to NOT give them the
opportunity. You'll be hearing this a lot until everyone gets in the habit of
securing everything and the thieves look for opportunity elsewhere.
Please share this message with as many residents as possible. Owners who rent their units, please be sure your tenants get this information ASAP. We are asking Sentry to send an e-mail blast to all owners and residents.
If
we all work together we can solve this problem pretty quickly.

High tides of 16 inches above MHHW and winds of 20-30 knots are not unusual.
The record high tide was set on September 19, 2003 at 49 inches above MHHW.
(MHHW= Mean Higher-High Level.)
The blue line is the predicted tide with normal lunar effects.
The red line is the measured level at the mouth of the Cambridge Creek.
