Delicacy?

Time to dig into a meal of muskrat!
Have you ever tried one of Dorchester County’s more unusual delicacies — muskrat? Now's the time! What we’re unofficially calling “Muskrat Weekend” at the end of February offers two events where you can try it. Try it prepared the traditional way on Saturday, Feb. 23, during the 74th National Outdoor Show. Or try it prepared other ways -- from muskrat stew to muskrat tacos — at the outdoor Crawfish Boil & Muskrat Stew Fest on Sunday, Feb. 24. The fest also features the second annual Muskrat Leg-Eating Contest! There are a few other places to try muskrat, or if you're feeling really adventurous, you can try cooking it up yourself! Muskrat has a long history in Dorchester and was once a staple on many dinner tables; the pelts were an important source of income.  Read more

Snow Place Like Home.

NOAA – National Weather Service  REVISED

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for the Mid-Atlantic region.  At the present time, all of the Mid-Atlantic areas can expect between 4” –  8” of snow accumulation starting mid-day Saturday and ending Sunday evening, Jan 13th   in most locations.

Areas in this zone include west of I-95;  Washington, D.C; Montgomery, Howard. Prince Georges, and Anne Arundel counties in Maryland and Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William, Loudoun, Falls Church, and Stafford counties in Virginia.  The Eastern Shore; all of the Delmarva particularly counties of  Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, and Worchester of the Delmarva Peninsula will experience snowfall in these locations of between 4” – 8” or more, depending on the track of the storm.  A low-pressure area has moved out of the southwest toward the Mid-Atlantic states.  As it does it will increase the Gulf moisture moving north.

Areas west of I -95 from D.C. and south will begin to see snow showers mid-day on Saturday becoming steady snowfall by the evening and continuing through the night, ending early Sunday morning, Jan 13th .  Affected areas of the Delmarva Peninsula will begin to see snow showers late Saturday evening  Jan 12th  continuing into Sunday, Jan 13th  and ending late Sunday evening.  Southern portions of the Delmarva and Northern Neck of VA as well as the Richmond areas of VA may see between 8” – 10” or higher snowfall amounts.

The path of this event at the present time will also affect locations north of this region including Baltimore City, Baltimore, Harford, Cecil, and Carroll counties.  The storm then is expected to intensify and move toward the East coast where a secondary low may form.  Depending on the intensification, moderate to heavy snow squalls can be expected in the affected areas.  It should be noted that depending on the location of the new low-pressure cell,  locations not presently in the forecast regions of the Delmarva may well experience moderate to heavy snowfall.  Because of the very low temps now over the Mid-Atlantic, road conditions may become hazardous.  This will be heavy wet snowfall.  All areas in the listed locations should prepare for poor road conditions.  Stay tuned to your local NOAA Weather Radio and TV stations for an update.

Why are the Cedar St Gates Open?

On December 30, the Cedar Street gates were not opening with the entry of the gate code.
After several reports from residents that their visitors and some residents were unable to enter, the gates were forced open on Monday evening, Hancock Gate, our service provider, visited DH on Friday, January 4, and determined that the keypad had failed. New parts are on order.

In the meantime, remotes openers, (aka Clickers,) are available at Sentry for $27.00 each.  This is the recommended way for all residents to enter the property. Visitors should use the directory to call their parties.

Deep Harbour Fence Project Update

 Happy New Year!

Nanticoke fence began the completion of the Deep Harbour perimeter fence on Friday.  They expect to complete the project by January 18 depending on the weather.  With our permission, they will park their trailer near the Trenton Street Gate.  They will be working over this weekend to take advantage of the favorable weather.

Nanticoke Fence contacted Miss Utilities and had them mark the adjacent property to the planned implementation last week to avoid buried service wires and power lines.  Mark W and Mike S are providing oversight on this project.

So far the work is progressing on schedule. Completion of the fence line is an important step in providing security for our gated community.

Some photos of the work completed along the Trenton Street Gate.  This fence will stop pedestrian traffic to the vacant lot (Townhouse House 4).
