Incident Report: Gates crashed, January 11, 2020

At approximately 1:30 AM a loud noise was heard,  It appears that someone barged the gates at Cattail Cove in an effort to enter. 

The incident has been reported to the police. Andy S is taking the lead on the investigation and repairs.

Each gate was split at their midpoint weldment.  The gate motors were not damaged but will be checked. Until repairs are complete, the gates will remain open.

Gates and Streets: NEW SIGNS.

Deep Harbour Gates and Traffic Control

New Traffic Signs:

15-mph speed limit, stop signs, and "no thru traffic" signs have been installed. Additionally, we have plans to install pedestrian crosswalks near the pool area.

Enforcement:
The Cambridge Police Department has agreed to initiate traffic monitoring for speeding, stop sign violations, and any other vehicular operation that puts pedestrians at risk.

Residents and visitors are reminded that MD Vehicle Laws state...

Depending on the circumstances, speeding could lead to a “reckless driving” conviction.

Maryland defines reckless driving as operating a vehicle “in wanton or willful disregard

for the safety of persons or property” or in a manner that indicates such a disregard.

A standard first offense carries up to $1,000 in fines. (Md. Code Ann., Transp. § 21-901.1 (2017).)

Gate Repairs:

Hancock Gate and Fence Company has been contracted to repair the gates.  Hancock will begin work on repairing the gates within the next three weeks.  The Trenton Street gates will be the first gates addressed and they will be closed while work is in progress.

        The DHMA BOD will publish additional updates to keep the residents informed of safety initiatives and repairs.

Reckless Scooter Driver! ALERT!

Posted are 2 photos of the scooter-terrorist that ran one of our neighbors off the sidewalk near Tidewater Drive trash bin. 

If you're unfamiliar with this problem, this scooter barrels through DH, primarily on the sidewalks coming off of the gate near Henry St, then exits Cedar St pedestrian walkway. Today he came back.

The Cambridge Police Dept have been notified. The license plate is bogus, so the police have more than one reason to apprehend him. They will be running extra patrols, and have asked that we call them immediately to report any further incident.

Update on Bicycle Thieves

Our detectives have charged two juveniles after an extensive investigation. The arrest of these juveniles have led to a total of twenty nine closed cases with a majority of them being theft from vehicles throughout the City of Cambridge. Five of the cases were recent burglaries and attempted burglaries of businesses within the city. There are additional arrests expected and detectives are still in the process of notifying the victims.

The arrest of these juveniles began with a phone call from a concerned citizen reporting suspicious activity in his neighborhood. This is a great example of the community and the police working together to prevent crime and make our streets safer.
