Grafitti!

Although minor, the presence of scratched messages in the elevator are bothersome.

On both elevators someone has scratched "x46" or "# 46" repeatedly on the fire instruction sticker.
On the east elevator someone has scratched "anti-Christ".

Experience has taught us that this invites more of the same.

Please report any acts that deface the property to management or the Board of Directors.

Best Weather Page for Choptank River and Cambridge

If you sail or motor boat this site has it all.

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=38.642617906345265&lon=-76.20941162109375

It combines the standard forecast with the marine forecast.

It also includes the real-time observation station located at the Sailwinds bulkhead
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=CAMM2

CAMM2 reports every six minutes with wind, water level, and temperature data.
You can also navigate to historic records if you like that sort of thing.
Pretty cool...

That white box at the end of the pier is the NOAA weather station. As you leave the Cambridge Creek look to your right.

POOL RULES?

The Master Board is considering the idea of "adult swim" times?

Intervals of 15 or 30 minutes are under consideration.

What do you think?  I will pass your opinions on to the Master Board & TPW.

Garage Door FIXED!

It appears that the garage door is now operating correctly.
I was able to use my remote from 30 feet away.
Moving the antenna and replaceing the receiver seems to have solved the problem.

What has been your experience?  Is this resolved?

What other items need attention?

Garage Door Update

The service technician was here on Wednesday.
Problems were possibly caused by signal interference from Verizon WIFI. Apparently, garage door manufacturers use a similar radio frequency as WIFI.  This appears to be well founded as a Google search will reveal multiple cases.

Since the remote controls work consistently from inside the building where the antenna is located, the antenna will be relocated outside the door. Give it a few days for the service people to install the new anttenna.

BTW, I found that aiming the remote at the right or left edge of the door seems to work better.  Probabaly, just luck???  Try it. Maybe it will help.

Garage Door Opener

Garage door test

Everybody seems to have the same problem a with remote operation of the garage door.
This has been a common problem for all of us for many months.

Yesterday, I spent some time testing the garage door opener at 900 Marshy Cove.
Basically, The door failed to open about two-thirds of the time.
Several distances from next to the door to 15 feet away yielded the same result.
Interestingly, when the remote was used inside the garage, it worked 100 % of the time from distances of up to 40 feet.
The same result was observed with a second remote.

Sentry Management had our garage door contractor send a technician to check it out.
A new radio receiver has been ordered. The new receiver will be installed within a week.

My theory is that the metal door acts as a shield which partially reduces the strength of the signal. A more sensitive receiver should overcome this problem.

The other condo building on Cattail Cove has an identical system that works consistently.

Stay tuned!

Fire Safety- What are we lookng at?

Fire Safety - What are we looking at?Neighbors,

Here are some photos to help you distinguish the fire system components in our building.
The smoke alarm system: There are at least four in each unit. When one detects smoke, all will sound. The button is for testing.

These do not call for a general building evacuation alarm.

The smoke alarm has a battery for back-up. Batteries should be changed once per year. Change all of them at the same time. Mark the date of replacement on each with a Sharpie pen.

THE CONDO ASSOCIATION BOARD HAS ARRANGED FOR FREE REPLACEMENT OF OUR BATTERRIES. AN ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DATE IS FORTHCOMING.

The classic sprinkler head: These work on heat. They are a simple mechanical device. When the metal element melts, the water sprays.
When the water sprays, a general a evacuation alarm will sound. They are not connected to the smoke alarms.

The Strobe and Sounder will indicate a general evacuation alarm. If this goes off, you will hear it.
There is no way to silence it from your condo. The strobe will flash along with every other strobe in the building. Leave the building. This is the real thing. If you don't smell smoke, leave anyway. If you smell smoke it may be too late. Modern fire systems rarely falsely alarm. The fire company is on its way, when this trips.

The Fire Alarm Pull Box will sound a general evacuation and call the Fire Department. If you know a fire has begun, don't wait for the sprinkler head to do its job. Get help. Pull the box. These are located next to the stairway exits. Unlike the old pull boxes, there is no glass to break. Look around the building, Do you know where the closest one is? Where are they in the garage?

Fire Extinguishers are located in the hallway. Look for the one nearest your condo. If you need it, use it. It is usually better to pull the alarm box first then grab the extinguisher. You will also find several of them in the garage. Get familiar with their locations.

Elevators are not an option during an evacuation alarm. The elevators go straight to the lobby and lock-down. Read the sign near the elevator.

A Fire Extinguisher in you condo could save the day especially in a kitchen fire. Mount one close-by and where you see it everyday. Here is one mounted in the pantry closet, four steps away from the stove. You can buy these at Home Depot, Lowes, or any hardware store. Read the labels. Ask for help. An "A,B,C" Tri-class should be appropriate for most areas. Extinguishers with a "10- B C" rating is recommended for kitchens. (Don't get one too heavy too lift.)
"A" is for paper, wood, & trash. "B" is for liquid fires like grease. "C" is for electrical fire like a toaster fire.

Please note that these comments are based my understanding of the building's fire system which may not be exact and also based on my understanding of common fire safety practice. When in doubt consult an authority on fire safety or the local Fire Marshall.

Sentry should be considered a knowledgeable source to answer your questions.

Fire Drill, Saturday, June 8, 2013, at NOON

Be ready to participate in 900 Marshy Cove's Fire Drill.
Fire drills can make a significant difference if ever the "real thing" occurs.
It is important to move quickly and calmly to the meeting location.

This is also an opportunity for our "first responders" to learn our building and our special needs.
Individuals that may need assistance have been identified, and will be helped appropriately.
The goal is 100% safe evacuation to a safe location.

The efficiency of the plan and its execution will be critiqued by the Fire Department, Sentry Management, and the Board of Directors.

Be sure to join us at the pool for refreshments and sandwiches.

Some simple things to remember:
  • DO NOT use the elevators to evacuate the building.
  • DO use the staircases at the end of each hallway.
  • Assemble at the "designed meeting area."
  • Be attentive to directions from the Fire Department Representative.
  • Read the correspondence from Sentry Management for more details.
