Peaking Load Contribution: Electricity Demand Charges

Our Recommendation

We recommend that, whenever possible, you reduce your electricity usage from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2019. Your PLC can influence 10-30% of your electricity bill, so by lowering your PLC this summer you will be able to reduce your PLC and overall electricity costs for a full twelve-month period starting next summer (June 1, 2020, to May 31, 2021).

About PLC

Effective June 1 of every year, each electricity account is assigned a PLC number by its utility. This number is based on the peak usage, which is calculated using five hours from the prior year with the highest PJM system demand, excluding holiday weekdays and weekends. (Note: The selected hours come from five different 24-hour periods.)  Peak usage generally occurs on the five hottest days of the year – and this summer's usage will affect the PLC for next summer.

A note from Steve Rideout, City Council

Dear Cambridge Readers:

Below is an email regarding the latest update on the High Street repairs. We are almost finished.

Morning Everyone;

Wanted to give you what will be my final update on High St. renovation project.    The final bricks were laid on Monday with a curing period of 7 days; yesterday the contractor did the blacktop tie-in’s from the existing streets to the new brick street with the final lane shift to accommodate this work.  In consideration of this High St. will be fully opened on Monday, June 24th, to normal two-way traffic and parking.

I would like to thank George Hyde and his staff especially Ed Phillips who has been our project inspector on site daily to ensure we finished with a quality product.    Through the efforts of the contractor Dave A. Bramble, Ed Phillips, and George, I feel they have done an exceptional job to make sure we maintained the historic integrity that High St. has always presented, traffic patterns were such to minimize the impact on the local business, and citizens.   We would like to thank MUC for their efforts in changing over the water services to the facilities throughout the route from the old main to the new main once the water main was installed and certified.

We would like to thank the Council for your support during this venture, and funding of the project.  With everyone’s efforts especially the patience of the local business, and our citizens, I hope they will enjoy and appreciate the renovations with opening of the 300 Block of High St. on Monday, June 24th.

Thank you.

After twelve years, it is time to check a few things.

Unit Inspection Program
Is my water heater Ok?

Should my expansion tank be replaced?

Are there leaks around my windows?

Are there any potential fire hazards in my unit?

These are just a few questions that will be answered after a unit inspection.  The purpose of the inspection is to let owners know what to repair, replace, or maintain to avoid costly incidents in the future.

The inspection will be offered at no cost to unit owners.  Twenty minutes is all that it will take to complete critical observations. Each unit owner will receive a private report with recommendations.

We plan to deliver the program in mid-June.  Letters will be mailed to owners explaining the program. Residents need not be present, but, are encouraged to participate.

The timeline and details will be forwarded in a few weeks.

We just ran a pilot with three units and have discovered a few unexpected problems.
