HYDRANT FLUSHING
HYDRANT FLUSHING DECEMBER 17-21, 2018
Twice yearly, spring and fall, Municipal Utilities flushes water lines to remove sedimentation from our distribution system. We start at our clean water sources, i.e. our wells, and use a specific sequence of hydrant openings to create higher water flow velocities to scour the pipes.
Benefits of a water main flushing program include:
- Making sure that the fire hydrant will function properly
- Remove sediment from the line
- Improve chlorine residuals
- Remove discolored water
- Helps remove taste and odor problems
As a result of the flushing process, residents may experience temporary discoloration of their water. This discoloration consists primarily of harmless silt and air, and does not affect the safety of your water. If you experience discoloration in your water, clear the pipes in your home by running all water faucets for a few minutes. If the discoloration persists for more than 24 hours, please contact Municipal Utilities at 410-228-5440.
IF YOU SEE A CREW FLUSHING HYDRANTS, PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY
